In late October, Fred P. Hochberg, Chairman and President of the EXIM Bank, held a roundtable discussion with CleanTech Alliance members related to how EXIM Bank evaluates clean technology and renewable energy sales. Members wanted to know more about what type of financial support is available (i.e. short-, medium- or long-term or project / structured finance or direct loans) and what rates and repayment terms EXIM Bank offers.

Chairman Hochberg offered to provide a roundtable with EXIM Bank representatives from the Office of Renewable Energy & Environmental Exports; and Project & Structured Finance and Engineers. This event will provide an overview of how:

  • EXIM Bank supports the clean technology and renewable energy sector with examples.
  • EXIM Bank evaluates clean technology and renewable energy sector sales projects.

The Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) is an independent agency of the U.S. Government established in 1934 to finance the export of U.S.-made goods and services. EXIM has a priority to increase its support for environmentally-beneficial exports, including renewable energy and energy efficiency.

EXIM can provide direct loans and loan guarantees to finance the export of U.S.-made goods and services for creditworthy international borrowers and projects. EXIM's short-term insurance program enables U.S. exporters to offer open account financing for international customers for both goods and services up to 360 days, which is much less complicated and a lower cost method than having the foreign buyer pay by letter of credit. EXIM's working capital guarantee can also be an invaluable resource for U.S. exporters seeking to finance the manufacture of goods for export sales. This program enables commercial lenders to make working capital loans to U.S. exporters for various export-related activities by substantially reducing the risks associated with these loans.
