Doosan GridTech, McKinstry and Clean Energy Fund Named CleanTech Achievement Award Finalists

Find out who wins at the CleanTech Alliance Annual Meeting on November 10

CleanTech Alliance named Doosan GridTech, McKinstry and the Washington State Clean Energy Fund as finalists for the 2016 CleanTech Achievement Award. The ultimate winner will be announced at the CleanTech Alliance Annual Meeting on November 10 in front of more than 300 cleantech industry executives, investors, media and policymakers.

The CleanTech Achievement Award honors an organization or program for making significant contributions in developing the region’s cleantech industry. CleanTech Alliance members nominate deserving organizations each year. An independent panel of judges then evaluates each nomination before selecting the three finalists and one winner. All nominees are recognized at the Annual Meeting.

“The Pacific Northwest is home to one of the strongest cleantech industry sectors in the world, which is clearly demonstrated by the high caliber of CleanTech Achievement Award nominations and finalists,” said J. Thomas Ranken, President and CEO of the CleanTech Alliance. “We have never experienced a stronger group of nominees. Doosan GridTech, McKinstry and the Clean Energy Fund are three outstanding examples of what is possible in our growing cleantech economy.”

The three 2016 CleanTech Achievement Award finalists include (in alphabetical order):

Doosan GridTech
Doosan GridTech (formerly 1Energy Systems) is playing a leading role in the rapidly expanding energy storage industry. The company is helping our electricity system decarbonize while raising the region’s profile and creating high-paying jobs. In its short history, Doosan GridTech has successfully delivered complex, state-of-the-art energy storage projects across the country and founded MESA – an open-standards effort for energy storage. GreenTech Media honored Doosan GridTech in 2016 with a Grid Edge Award as one of the top 20 companies "making change on the cutting edge of distribution energy and grid integration."

McKinstry
McKinstry continuously looks for new ways to innovate the clean technology landscape. In the past 50 years, the company has transformed how buildings are designed, built, operated and maintained for optimal energy efficiency and occupant health. One example is the recent partnership with Clise Properties and Amazon, the nation’s largest-scale heat recovery systems to cross property lines. This partnership, dubbed the “EcoDistrict,” transfers data center waste heat to offset 75 percent of the heat needed by Amazon’s new corporate headquarters across the street.

Washington State Clean Energy Fund
The Washington State Legislature passed a $36 million Clean Energy Fund in 2013 to expand clean energy research and deployment statewide. That investment attracted an additional $60.5 million in outside funding to Washington State research institutions, universities, business and homeowners. Deemed successful, the Legislature extended the Clean Energy Fund in 2015 with an additional $40 million investment to expand the program’s grid modernization, research and job creation efforts. The Clean Energy Fund is administered by the Washington State Department of Commerce.
