- Building technology: DOE announced a funding opportunity of $47 million for flexible building technologies; heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC); and solid-state lighting. The purpose is to increase energy productivity – both within and beyond a building’s walls – by supporting the R&D and performance verification of flexible and energy-efficient technologies for residential and commercial buildings.
- Artificial Intelligence: DOE announced $20 million in awards for research projects that aim to improve A.I. as a tool of grid resiliency in science.
- Dark Matter: DOE announced a plan to provide $24 million for the development of new projects to study dark matter. These projects aim to take advantage of recent theory and technology advances.
- Bioenergy: DOE announced over $79 million in funding for bioenergy research and development including biofuels, bioproducts, and biopower. This funding supports DOE’s goal of providing consumers and businesses with a range of domestic energy options that are affordable, reliable, and secure. This also supports the Water Security Grand Challenge, a White House initiated, DOE-led framework to advance transformational technology and innovation to meet the global need for safe, secure, and affordable water.
