David E. Allen is a Principal of McKinstry, a national consulting, construction, energy and facility services firm based in Seattle. McKinstry is a market leader in the integrated delivery of mechanical, electrical and data infrastructure systems and offers extensive facility management and energy-related services.
As McKinstry’s Executive Vice President, David led the company’s brand development including strategic positioning, overseeing business development, community engagement and client services company-wide. David is widely respected for his contributions to creating McKinstry’s positioning strategy, which has enabled the company to emerge as one of the nation’s most recognizable brands in sustainability, energy, clean technology, and mission-critical facility consulting.
During his 40-year career, David has championed countless marketing and strategic initiatives for his firm and others within the industry. In 2007 he co-chaired the launch of The Clean Technology Alliance Washington which has grown to become the State’s premier clean tech and energy trade organization. In addition, David has played a significant role in the establishment of McKinstry’s Innovation Center, a business accelerator created to help newly established clean tech companies quickly mature and bring their products and services to market.
He serves on the boards of several industry associations, trade groups, community organizations and government-business alliances. David served for 10 years as a national trustee for the Rocky Mountain Institute, is past chair and serves on the executive committee of the Clean Tech Alliance, and chaired the economic development council for six years, and is a member of Western Washington University’s Energy Advisory Board. In 2010 David chaired a year-long Skills Panel on Green Design and Construction for the Workforce Development Council, where he was chosen by the past three Seattle mayors to a seat on City Light’s citizens review panel.
