The CleanTech Alliance, thanks to funding from the Washington State Department of Commerce and the work of consultants Moonbeam Exchange, Hammerschlag LLC, and High Peak Strategies produced an in-depth report on the benefits of the fusion energy supply chain and its adjacent industries for Washington state.
Key findings from the report’s Executive Summary include:
- Washington State is emerging as a global leader thanks to advantages with research institutions, a skilled workforce, investors with a long-term horizon, and advanced manufacturing capabilities.
- Two-thirds of domestic supply chain value is spent outside of Washington State.
- Meeting the fusion sector’s workforce needs will require strategic investment in technical talent pipelines.
- The workforce demand will evolve as the industry matures.
- Future focus areas to advance fusion energy in Washington State include:
- Element 1: Market Assessment
- Element 2: Opportunity Pipeline
- Element 3: Workforce Assessment
- Additional research may be needed to inform data-driven initiatives.
