If your organization completed a clean energy project in the last couple of years — like installing solar panels, EV charging stations, or making energy efficiency upgrades — you may be eligible for cash-back federal tax credits through a process called elective pay.
But depending on your tax year and whether you filed an extension, your filing deadline could be November 17, 2025 — and for some organizations, this is your last chance to claim the credits.
📌 Understanding the November 17, 2025 clean energy tax credit deadline
Two types of organizations who need to act now:
1️⃣ Organizations with a calendar tax year (Jan 1 – Dec 31, 2024)
- If you completed a project in 2024
- And filed a six-month extension (pushing your original deadline from May 15, 2025 to November 17, 2025)
➡️ November 17, 2025 is your final deadline.
- No further extensions are available. If you miss this date, you forfeit the credits.
2️⃣ Organizations with a July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2025 tax year
- If you completed a clean energy project during this tax year
- November 17, 2025, is your original deadline
- You can file for a six-month extension (which would give you until May 15, 2026), but you must submit IRS Form 8868 by November 17 in order to receive it.
Whether November 17 is your first or final deadline, now is the time to act.
