Snohomish County PUD Completes Project to Upgrade to Smart Grid Technology

Snohomish County Public Utility District completed the first project of a multi-year effort to upgrade its electric grid with smart grid technology on time and under budget. The utility installed 163 miles of fiber optic cable connecting 62 substations, two radio sites, and utility buildings. The project is supported by $15.8 million in matching federal stimulus dollars. The savings will help pay for other smart grid components.
