W Fund Launched to Fund Research Institution Spinouts

A new, venture capital fund out of the University of Washington, the The W Fund,  has launched a $20 miillion early stage venture fund aimed at funding promising spinouts of the University of Washington and other research institutions in the state.  The fund said it will help promising research and student generated start-ups with access to early stage capital.  The new fund is being led by WCTA Board Member Linden Rhoads, who is UW’s Vice Provost responsible for commercializing university research, and also includes advisors such as Troy Cichos of Madrona Capital, Steven Singh of Concur, Rudy Gadre, the former General Counsel at Facebook, and others.
