Today is the day to celebrate the lush green Earth and do what we can to keep it fresh.
How does Earth Day relate to Seattle’s startups? The kind folks over at WhitePages show us with a neat little infographic below.
They looked at four local companies that, by way of their business models, are saving trees and keeping this planet green:
- WhitePages — WhitePages.com eliminates the need for the humongous phone books, which nowadays often end up on doorsteps for weeks.
- Concur — The Redmond-based maker of travel and entertainment expense management software eliminates paper expense reports.
- Doxo — A cloud-based filing cabinet and online bill-paying service is currently being used by a number of local governments and businesses including AT&T, Sound Community Bank, and Puget Sound Energy.
- Clipboard — Clipboard has developed a technology that allows users to clip, save and share sections of Web pages — preserving text, images and links, removing the need to print out anything.
Also today, 49 employees from another Seattle company, DoubleDown Interactive, participated in their first-ever Earth Day Scavenger Hunt. The do-gooders broke out into 13 teams to clean up our neighborhood by collecting items like cigarette butts, bottles, pieces of paper, and bottle caps. Every piece of litter was based on a point system to create awareness about the correct procedures of recycling.
