Snohomish County is #1 in U.S. Manufacturing Job Growth

Professor Richard Morrill of the University of Washington recently published an analysis of manufacturing activity in the United States using U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data. The data documents the general decline of manufacturing jobs in the U.S. during the period of 1967 to 2014.

Contrary to the trend, the analysis shows that Snohomish County has the largest percentage increase in manufacturing jobs when compared to any other major urban manufacturing community in the U.S. From 1967 to 2014, Snohomish County manufacturing jobs increased by 276%.

This is consistent with Snohomish County’s position as the largest manufacturing county in Washington State and the largest manufacturing county west of the Rockies. Twenty-three percent of the jobs in Snohomish County are associated with manufacturing; the statewide average is 10%.
