Hector Dominguez shared how he and his partner, Alan Campbell, at SmartVineyards help growers make better irrigation decisions by using onsite weather stations and soil water tension sensors. The company presented at the 2017 CleanTech Innovation Showcase.

By placing the sensors at various sites throughout the vineyards, growers are able to monitor soil conditions and use irrigation to raise more reliable crops despite fluctuating weather conditions. Their ongoing research, their collaborations with Oregon State University, and their valued relationships with the growers have helped winemakers grow the high-quality grapes necessary for fine wines. Their hardware is in its third generation and is constantly becoming more modular and easy to maintain. SmartVineyards aims to expand their sensor systems to a wider range of crops, including blueberries, hops, and apples.
