OCO’s mission is to lower the cost of formic acid production using just carbon dioxide, water and renewable electricity. This technical achievement is revolutionary because it incentives company to sell their CO2 rather than emit it into the air and it creates a product (formic acid) which can be easily used to make high pressure hydrogen. This would seemingly create a sustainable supply chain for hydrogen vehicles. It also acts as a cheaper alternative to batteries as it uses cheap renewable electricity to make formic acid an energy carrier which can then be easily converted to use as an energy source at a later date.
