Inslee Touts Startup in Bid for Governor, McKenna Disagrees

Jay Inslee formally announced his campaign to run for governor in 2012 and gubernatorial candidate Att Gen Rob McKenna has taken issue with one of Inslee’s proposals.  Inslee also said he was looking for new ways to pump capital into startups, the innovators that power economic development. He proposed using a small portion of state pension funds to create a pool of startup capital “for startups that pledge to start here and pledge to stay here.”  McKenna knocked the idea in an interview with seattlepi.com, saying that startup capital is risk capital.  “Any venture capitalist will tell you that you must be willing to risk it all. Gambling on a start-up with pensioners’ money is not a wise policy.”
