Starbucks Projects Emphasize Energy Efficiency

Starbucks plans to renovate 1,700 stores across the country this year, including more than 100 in Washington and Oregon, and open 400 new stores.

For contractors, finding out how to get some of that work is difficult, which seems odd for a company that two months ago rolled out its “Jobs for USA” program with a lot of fanfare. At the time, the company told The Associated Press it was hiring about 200 people a day in the U.S. as part of efforts to remodel and open new stores.

One thing is clear though: contractors who want to build and remodel stores, and landlords who want to rent space to Starbucks, should be on the green bandwagon. The company is trying to reduce its energy consumption 25 percent by 2015 and is investing in energy efficient lighting, HVAC systems, and other equipment.
