IBM professes a technology that sates the anxiety caused by an EV’s low range capability. A newer type of battery, known as a lithium-air cell, is 1000x denser in energy than the Li-ion, leading to a 500-mile range potential.
The drawback is the chemical instability during recharge that limits the lifespan of the battery. However, IBM scientists claim to have the solution for this problem, but haven’t revealed the material yet. This advancement puts lithum-air battery one step closer to becoming a reality.
