According to the Puget Sound Business Journal, the Seattle area has 94,705 small businesses. That is the 13th-highest total in the nation.
Small businesses have fewer than 100 employees and they make up 98.87 percent of all businesses in the metropolitan area, according to the research division of American City Business Journals.
New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, Philadelphia, Washington, Dallas, Atlanta, Houston, Boston and San Francisco-Oakland all have more than 100,000 small businesses.
