Itron Scores Deployment Win In France

ItronLiberty Lake, Washington-based smart utility meter maker Itron has scored another, international win, saying today that it has won Gaz reseau Distribution France (GrDF), the main natural gas utility and 100 percent-owned subsidiary of GDF Suez for its Smart Gas Meter project. The project will create smart metering excellence in France to benefit GrDF customers, improve operational efficiency and create jobs.

With this contract, Itron will supply up to 3.7 million smart gas meters with integrated radios between 2016 and 2022. The meters are an important part of GrDF’s Smart Gas Meter project, which will allow 11 million GrDF residential and business customers to benefit from day-to-day consumption information and monthly invoicing of actual consumption instead of estimated reads. Consumers will be able to improve energy management with more frequent access to their usage information. Itron will supply smart gas meters that are reliable and robust, meeting the requirements outlined by GrDF.
“Itron is honored to be a part of such a significant smart metering project in France. As the largest smart gas deployment in the world, this project will be an example of excellence in smart metering and a model for future smart gas metering deployments around the world,” said Marcel Regnier, president of Itron’s global gas business unit. “Itron has a long history in France and we are proud to provide these industry-leading smart gas meters to the largest natural gas provider in France. We look forward to helping GrDF and its customers better manage gas resources.”
