When Doug and Pam Lakman started planning Zillah Oakes Inn, a seven-room boutique hotel in the Yakima Valley, Pam was adamant they include solar panels. With almost 300 days of sunshine each year, it seemed like a missed opportunity not to try. Installation of 36 panels will produce about 90 percent of the energy needed.

Now Zillah Oakes Inn has not only newly-installed solar panels, but low-flow fixtures, low-flush toilets and energy-efficient ceiling fans.
