Commerce reissues request for applications for Clean Energy Fund 2021 RD&D program grants

All grant applicants from the first solicitation will be notified of this decision by email.

Due to many applicants not passing the initial screening of requirements for Phase One A of the 2021 Clean Energy Fund Research, Development & Demonstration program grants, Commerce will reissue the request for applications (RFA) by close of business today.

Commerce acknowledges that mandatory requirements may have been overly extensive in Phase One, and some sections of the RFA and application were unclear. The RFA has been revised to

  • reduce administrative requirements,
  • clarify sections for all applicants, and
  • minimize rework for initial applicants that choose to reapply.

The mandatory requirements have changed and the timeline is updated. Find full information on the RD&D Clean Energy Fund webpage.

Application Deadline
: July 30, 5 p.m. PST

As a result of the RFA and application changes, the “Encourage” and “Discourage” decisions for proposals to move forward will be issued in early September. Award decisions and notifications will be made at the end of December, with contract negotiations beginning in February 2022.

Note: Prior applicants must submit an updated application. Commerce greatly appreciates the interest and effort made by those who applied initially, and for your patience during this unanticipated delay. We apologize for the inconvenience any potential rework may cause.
