The International Energy Association (IEA), which advises industrialized nations on their energy policies, said the global energy map “is being redrawn by the resurgence in oil and gas production in the United States.” A shale-oil boom will thrust the U.S. ahead of Saudi Arabia as the world’s largest oil producer by 2020, and within just three years, the United States will unseat Russia as the largest producer of natural gas. The United States, which imports 20% of its total energy now, will become largely self-sufficient by 2035.
